Polarwave. Name has meaning only for myself and several relatives who are now waiting for me beyond the veil. On most sites I'm known as Dennyboy, hence the name of this blog. I started it to keep an ongoing record of my learning experiences in OpenBSD and FreeBSD. Been an uphill fight, quite a bit of the way, having come from a "WINDOZE" background, but I keep plugging away and over time have made quite a bit of progress.

I was reading an article by Dru Lavigne at:
Hack #51. Get the Most Out of FTP
I used the info on .netrc along with a script I put together to
login anonymously automatically, get a directory listing of the
packages and diff it against a earlier existing directory listing
in my home directory to see if any packages had been updated.
It was fun as I went along, learing more about scripting and
command line ftp.

Added some pages to the new web site. There's help there on
vim, mutt, getting help on OpenBSD mailing lists, NTPD, dump
and restore, working with packages, and a page on scripting
help and .profile aliases to keep from opening the same program
twice.

Vietnam vet. Served in Company C of the 168th Combat Engineer Battalion in III Corp area 1966. Retired from offshore oil and gas production and safety system work. Hurricane Katrina survivor. Disabled now, but I can still work the heck out of a keyboard!
